Never heard of them before, but I did a quick search and found
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/0304_merg/ which gave a pretty good
explanation. Makes sense to me, but I'd bet they have a big effect on torque
curve, and you'd need a dyno and a big box of hacksaw blades to get it
right. A vernier cam gear would probably be a good idea too.
