This looks like a great track to race at ... lots of fun and very technical
... We'll have to let Dennis tell us about that. Definitely a rich mans
country club... all the tire walls are built with brand new tires....
From a corner workers point of view though, I will have to think about wether
or not I will work there again. There are NO corner stations, turn three is a
4 x 8 piece of plywood thrown on the ground. Even if you take a chair out with
you, you cant sit down because you cant see over the guard rail to see the
track, so its standing all day in the sun, wind, rain or whatever with no
break.
The track does not own a wrecker.... the one contracted on saturday never
showed up, so when an autocrosser put a car on top of the tire wall, there was
a lot of trouble getting him down again....
I was originally disappointed that MC did not rent the entire track, north
half first time there and south half second time there later this summer.
(south half looks tighter & twistier than the north on the map). Now I'm glad
they did it as they did. There is plenty to learn on only half of the track.
My understanding now is that the club gaurantees their members track time on
the weekends so outside groups will never get the entire track. (This is what
was explained to me by another corner worker, .. not necesarily fact).
All in all it was a fun weekend, with Dennis consistantly going faster (at
least through my corner). I'll be back to race there, mayby just not to corner
work...

weekend. FOT Dennis Delap was running his TR3 at a new track outside Joliet,
IL. on Sunday. FOT's Tom Strange, Ernie Husmann, and myself were also in
attendance Sunday without our cars. Dennis has done a nice job of repairing the
damage from his close MG encounter at Road Atlanta, but he did leave the
Darlington Stripe in place. Made the others fearful of him on the track.

This new track is one of 2 circuits built as part of the Autobahn, a country
club for racers. They can run both courses at the same time, or make 1 big
circuit out of the whole thing. I think the concept is patterned after VIR.
It's a nice place, and Dennis enjoyed the track, and we enjoyed being there.
