Just a wonderful great great guy. I hope he is fitted with a turbocharger
and never loses another race. He deserves to win them all. We all have been
winners having been around him.

  Hey everyone,

This was posted on the CVAR group on Yahoo. For those of you who have
been to Hallett, you will remember Mike (general manager and then owner
of the Hallett Motor Racing Circuit) as being very involved, genuinely
caring and with an absolute love of the sport. I was scheduled for
driver's school with his sons (who ran it) in 1998 or so, and they
missed putting me on the schedule somehow, so they went to do something
else that weekend. Mike gave me a one-on-one driver school, showing me
the Spitfire lines around the track (he was an ex-Spit racer) in his
Chevy-powered Jag, then letting me drive the beast. He would check in
on me over the weekend and see how I was doing, and give me tips and
pointers. He always came to say hi when we were at the track, if I
didn't get to him first. I will miss him.

With a heavy heart I pass this information along to you all.
Mike Stephens passed away at home after a long illness on Saturday
evening (6/23/07). As most of you know Mike had been ill for several
months and now suffers no more.
Mike was an old friend from my SCCA and NASA days and continuing
through current CVAR events, he will be missed.
Our thoughts are with Connie, Scott, Shane and all of the Stephens
family. That extended family included hundreds of racers from all over
the country including many from CVAR.
Mike was a true patron of the sport of road racing and has left a
legacy in HMRC that will be a part of the sport that he loved for a
  very long time.

  R.I.P., Mike.
