Hi Mark...If  by tape you mean regular tape such as Racers Tape...I strongly 
suggest you use something more solid, like a metal strap..Also.. even with a 
metal strap, the stock Triumph filler will not be sealed tightly in a 
rollover...and will leak heavily...I have my original cap in place for 
cosmetics, ..my fuel cell is in the trunk..
