I did the number graphic decals for this car. That's all I know about it.

Alex, with this reply I am copying the Friends of Triumph e-mail list.
Sadly,
I knew Doug only through his involvement with the Vintage Triumph Register
organization, and I really only know of the car what I've seen in pictures
such as this one on the FoT Racing web site:

<http://fot-racing.com/tr3/caption/TR3Ross.htm>

Hopefully there are folks within FoT who might know more about Doug's car.

*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er, Triumph
Herald engine with wings.

Andy,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to you. My name is Alex
Hofberg. I am a jeweler in Portland, Oregon and the current owner of a
vintage TR3 that I think you are familiar with. Though I bought this car
from a friend of mine some 15 months ago, I only recently started to look
deeper into the history of the car I own and while doing some google
searching on Doug's name and a TR3 tag, I found a short memorial note that
you posted after his passing.

Though I own a TR6 and Rosebud as well as a modern Triumph Bonneville, I
sort of own this car by accident, having no (current) intention of racing it
though I have rallied it a little. The friend I bought it from seems to
have
purchased Rosebud from one of Doug's family members as a car for his wife
to
race. He and his wife both graduated to much faster, much more powerful
vintage racers and have an interesting collection that found the TR3 loved
but no longer needed for racing.

The reason I am dropping you this note is that when I purchased the car
the
prior owner had lost or never gotten much of the build history that as far
as I'm concerned needs to accompany the car given a restoration as thorough
and beautiful as Doug achieved. Other than the roll bar being slightly
modified and painted black and a bolt on rack and pinion conversion being
done
the car is exactly as I got it and as far as I know otherwise unchanged
since Doug finished it.

If you can offer any advise as to who can fill in some of the blanks or I
you can yourself, I would be very grateful. Technical detail is good but
be
aware I am an owner rather than a mechanic, trying to preserve this car
rather than improve it or use it hard.

For my part, my specialty is the repair and sales of really expensive
mechanical watches and vintage and antique watches. I write a column for
Sports Car Market Magazine on the subject of collecting watches and hope to
able to continue to collect interesting cars as a side line.

I hope you can assist,

Thank you,
