I raced a spec miata last year ( scca ) and they do handle like crazy and the
draft is important.

Get out of the draft and your toast, did a bit of bump drafting too at PPIR.

The top 4 or 5 miata drivers are still turning faster lap times than the TR's
by about 3 -4B seconds a lap

at High Plains but I expect to narrow that gap next week. The Miata's in spec
trim weigh right about

2100 with driver, same size tires. A strong spec miata motor will have 118 -
120 HP.

Their advantages are, lower CG, 50/50 weight distribution, wider track, better
suspension

& brakes and much better aero by far.

At PPIR we hit the apex at T-2 at 115 MPH and continue to climb right up to T3
in a SM.

In the TR4 it's more like 105 and not a lot after that up to T3. That's a lot
to give up every lap.

One neat little trick the SM guys do is actually hook thier wheels in the
inside of the curbing which

works really neat when it works, when you get it wrong it generally goes
really wrong.

It would be interesting to see what they would be like if modified to the
level some of our cars are.

Great cars though, I'm a big fan.

Spec Miatas are very much a momentum car. B Lift at the wrong place on the
track and that lap is done. B Need to draft where ever possible, which is why
you often see them in a train and bump drafting. B Also makes for big crashes,
since when one gets out of whack there are usually others close by.

They are a forgiving car and often when getting in trouble on the track just
stand on the go pedal and it can be saved.

If you want a car about the size of a Miata and performance like a monster
miata, go for a Honda S2000. B 240 HP out of the box for the 2 liter engine
and
9000 redline. B Joe(B)

Clearly Chris has never driven one of the Monster Miatas.
