I never used plastic gage for the bearing clearance.
To measure this I always take dial gauges which in my opinion is more
precise as you can also estimate the out of roundness of the parts.

Cheers

Betreff: [Fot] Proceedure for checking rod bearing clearances

FoT

With the rods I have, in order to seperate the caps I have to back out the
bolts

a few turns and tap the bolts with a soft mallet to seperate them.

I use plastigauge to check my main clearances but it seems that tapping

on the rod bolts may tend to affect a plastigauge measurements on the rod

journals. I'd appreciate any feedback on checking rod clearances.

Thanks as always,

jim g
