Use of bronze guides is or can be an issue here.

ESPECIALLY those not properly clearanced.

It ALSO seems that cast iron guides are 'slippery' while bronze can create
added friction and wear.

We dont use bronze guides anymore.

Google "ZDDP"

You'll get so much information, your head will explode.

Executive summary: yes, there is a correlation. The summary of the
correlation is that without ZDDP in break-in, cam failure is certain.
THere may be supporting data that without ZDDP during normal use that
failure probable - all things considered.

But there are other factors for excessive cam wear and you need to account
for ALL of them. Material surface hardness, proper materials in the first
place, proper break-in, proper valve spring pressure, proper rocker
geometry and so forth.

rml
