RE: Summers Bros Axles
A list member, Russ Moore has a Spitfire axle design that uses Summer Bros
Axles (I don't know if these are the same axles Mark has) and Corvair U
joint flanges.
Here's a list of the PNs from the Bill of Materials he sent me. I've had a
set on my spitfire race car for a few years now with out any problems.
Prior to that I had a set of Steve Johnson designed axles that were
stronger that the stock ones, but used the stock spit U joints. I would
break / wear out a joint at least once a season. One time it put me into
the wall at Limerock.

Russ has a shop, besides being a Spit racer, and can give you more details
if you like.

U-Joint NEAPCO 1-0153HD or Spicer 5-153 $12.08 -4
Outer roller bearing J-2012 Torrington $ 13.32 -4
Outer ball bearing R20ZZ or NDH 2993L07 $9.84 4
Seal Chicago Rawhide# 12330 $2.04 -4
Flange yoke NEAPCO 2-2-329 do not get Spicer equivalent-lacks material on
ring $19.94 -3
Axle shaft yoke: GM 6255781 (standard Corvair part. www.larryscorvair.com
among others
