Much of it is about valve angles and combustion chamber shape, both of =
which can be far better optimised in a cross flow configuration.   Also =
you don't have your intake sitting on top of your exhaust manifold =
getting baked.   Lower fuel temps equal more BHP.

charge got sucked in, squeezed, ignited and blown back out, it wouldn't =
have any clear idea of which side of the head it had come in on in the =
first place.
