Hi Doug.

Clausager DOESN'T say an ammeter was an "option". The ammeter was part
of a long list of modifications and extra equipment available from the Donald
Healey Motor Company- quite a different situation than a factory accessory
available from any BMC dealership worldwide. The DHMC would do pretty much
anything for their clients, but historically speaking, they did relatively
little in the overall larger picture. Many people have taken this Warwick
list to heart and fabricated some of these accessories, thinking they were
typically seen, when in fact they weren't. Gerry Coker once said that
several sets of fitted luggage as per the Warwick list have appeared in modern
times, whereas he believed they only ever sold ONE SET !

I have a list from the Donald Healey Motor Company dated Jan.11, 1961
listing some 37 items which in effect converted your showroom car to the
then-current rally spec car. Interesting items are: 54-spoke wheels (NOT
60 or 72 !) Chrome rocker cover- EXCHANGE (not cast alloy) , Clear plastic
seat covers, a Smiths 50T radio ( which was the base-model AM-only unit at
the time), and of course your ammeter.

Best regards,
Peter
