Hi,

Not specifically a Healey query but we all know about rust=E2=80=A6.

So, I=E2=80=99m restoring an old pistol. (We=E2=80=99ll get one thing strai=
ght first=E2=80=A6.I=E2=80=99m no Wyatt Earp. This thing is a nice old .177=
 air pistol. A Webley & Scott Mk1. My wife=E2=80=99s father=E2=80=99s. Abou=
t a hundred years old. Still works well.)

Thus far, I=E2=80=99ve disassembled, removed the old bluing and any rust. I=
=E2=80=99ll reblue it per instructions from the net and from the bottle of =
blue. No problems so far. Actually, the only issue is the difficulty in obt=
aining parts.

I=E2=80=99m advised by the bluing manufacturer=E2=80=99s blurb on the bottl=
e to finish off the whole process by =E2=80=9CSaturating metal in Barricade=
Rust Protection=E2=80=9D. That stuff seems to be WD40 in all but name with=
the property that, perhaps, it leaves a more lasting film on the metal. Bu=
t the manufacturer would tell one to do that, wouldn=E2=80=99t they?=20

Nanny has taken away most of our firearms in the UK, so a lot of this type =
of stuff comes in from overseas. Typically the US. Anyone know anything abo=
ut this stuff or similar???? Years ago, when playing with Her Majesty=E2=80=
=99s firearms, we used to keep little bottles of Jenolite something or othe=
r, but that seems to be unavailable now. Only their Rust Converter.

I=E2=80=99ll probably just reblue it and wrap it up in an oily rag for anot=
her 20 years. (Just so long as my grandson doesn=E2=80=99t find it).

Thanks,

Simon
