Do not depend upon anyone other than the official source -
Unfortunately, about 25 competitors got bogus information from a source
who has done this before - and believed the June meet was cancelled.
Instead, Mike Manghelli (SCTA Vice President) met with the Bureau of
Land Management at 6:30 AM on Friday, June 4th, at El Mirage and
determined there were two miles of good dry solid lake bed to run on and
got the ok from the BLM to use the West entrance only for the meet.
(there was damp lake bed on the East end - so the East entrance was
blocked by the BLM).
We also had an incredible tail wind - and 23 new records were set.
Les Leggit's entry #500 actually went 297 mph.
