I don't claim to be an aero specialist but I do know that the Flatfire
streamliner flew at the last Speedweek with the bottom of the nose 1/2"
higher than the rear of the car. There also was no covering over the opening
at the bottom of the car when the enclosed front wheels were removed to
mount the exposed axle and wheels. This could have been the contributing
factor to the lift at speed. I have seen two lakester designs where the
front wing is raised F1 style. A person whose opinion I respect has said
that this type of nose design is not compatable to our style of racing. I
would think the difference between the F1 nose and Indy nose is due to air
management down the sides and under the car, partial ground effects vrs.
full flat bottom.
