Said I would share my experiences.. on the Tune up... sure wish more folks
would do this... It would help us all.
We started out with a Holley 4150 reworked by BG... it has anular discharge
nozzels and basically is kinda sporty.. the Jets out of the Box were 82's
square ( in all four corners ) and we were running 7.5 pounds of fuel
Pressure from a BG 280.... We changed the Jets several times uping the Fuel
each time.... ended up with 89's in the Front and 91's in the back.... and
upped the fuel pressure to 8.5 lbs...This is about what we did last year...
continuously increasing Jets until we had EGT's that were in the 1450
range....never did get the Fuel set correctly... When the Nitrous came on we
did in fact drop EGT's as it's supposed to.... but for some reason Bville
Just Takes a TON of Jets for us...
Dave Pointed out several Problem areas in our Fuel system and I am going to
correct them before the next race.... seems our marginal 3.5 gallon fuel
cell was mounted in front of the radiator and is getting Heat Soaked causing
our fuel to heat up and vapor lock to some degree. we also don't have a
bypassing regulator which would allow the fuel to circulate back to the cell
thereby cooling the fuel. There are a couple of other issues dealing with
the quality of the seperate fuel system for the Nitrous and we need to up
grade it also.
The reason I am sharing so much of this basically comes down to what you buy
out of the box.... when your building a car it's often more expensive to buy
the Cheapest components and then up grade them later... if I had got the
best up front I wouldn't be having all these problems... what I am trying to
say is it's often Very Expensive to be CHEAP....
I also didn't have a complete selection of Jets for the Nitrous... this
ended up being Fatal to the engine... Jets are less then 5 bucks apiece and
I simply didn't get them ordered... again not having the right size cost
more then money it was the opportunity to set a record....
