NEW POSTAL RATES KICK IN SUNDAY
Amid coverage of the protracted presidential election, one
piece of news may have escaped notice: Starting Sunday,
Jan. 7, the cost of sending a first class letter will
increase by a penny. The postal service says there is an
abundant supply of one-cent stamps that can be used with
existing 33 cent stamps. As in past years, a special postage
stamp bearing no value will be designated as being worth
34 cents. For first class mail, each ounce after the
initial ounce will cost a penny less, 21 cents.
Additionally, the cost of mailing a postcard will remain
20 cents.
