The FIA rules for production are now called Series Production Automobiles. 
These have to be homologated (approved) by the FIA or by a National
Sporting body.  Homologation means producing thousands of the same model.  
They have to be manufactured cars, so that three (3) can be selected by the
governing body at the factory before they turn a wheel.  They are then run
in and one is selected for the attempt.  the Vega with tube chassis etc
will now be in category A - special automobiles and could race against Jack
costella.
