List - a bit more to help record attempts go International.

Whilst Ugo Fadini's suggestion that the SCTA joins the FIA seems to be
fraught with difficulties (and an exchange of many $s) there is an
alternative.

ACCUS is the FIA affiliated organisation in the USA. Burdett Martin of
ACCUS is Chairman of the FIA Record Commission. The FIA rules allow each
country through its affiliated body - ACCUS - to 'hold' an Annual event
where International records can be challenged and if new records are set
the fees are paid to the FIA accordingly after the event.

Therefore all that is needed is ACCUS to become part of the Bonneville
World Finals and you can get FIA and SCTA/BNI International (and SCTA
records) at one meeting. If the AMA is invited to be involved for the
bikers as well you can get all vehicles embraced. If you cannot or do not
wish to work to a one or two hour turnaround or two way in opposite
direction runs then you run as always - SCTA/BNI National.

It seems to me the available length of Bonneville course is now shorter
than it ever was (7 total as against 11 or even 13 miles). Question: is
there any concern that some older records are out of reach just because the
mining has affected the Bonneville track?

Malcolm Pittwood, Derby, England.

(If all else fails in International harmony, all racers could ask my friend
Jack Costella to build them a 'needle' streamliner and then they can all
run fast with only body colour changes differentiating ownership).
