Yesterday it was about 15 degrees F. in the greater Toronto area with a
strong windchill factor and it was snowing. I get home from work and in the
mail is not one but two tapes from Chris and Ed Shearer waiting for me which
were taken at the World of Speed week this year. Now I got to see the
Beckett-Timney- Williams car go over 200mph, Keith Turks runs , the Burkland
Streamliner lose its chutes at an amazing 450mph and what it took to get the
car out of the salty mud at the end of the track. I laughed so hard at the
bar stool racing as did my wife.Chris interviewed so many people so that
they got some recognition and the thrill for so many competitors was evident
as they got out of their cars after a run.I am getting an ever increasing
respect for the competitors and the overall challenge of this sport.There
were many others on this tape but the best part is that I got to see what
many of you had described on this list after that week was over. Thanks
ever so much Chris and Ed.I'm going to be showing the tapes to the students
who are part of our school's car club-can you say "field trip" ? Wonder how
that would go over with the school directors?
