Keith, List,

This is perfectly timed for me to contribute a couple dandys.

We've got several young Marines who moonlight at the dealership. We
refer to them as "BB boys". (Put 'em in a box car with a BB and they'll
either break it or steal it.)

Last Saturday one of my buddies was there working on his car, and had an
opportunity to observe one new guy. The weekend before this fella diagnosed
a suspension squeek and had replaced both rear struts on a car without even
noticing that a rear suspension link was so badly bent it was rubbing on the
chassis with every suspension movement. The car still squeeked just the
same when he was done, but he didn't notice that either.

Well, first the guy asks for help putting a serpentine belt back on a
car, saying he'd taken it off an hour earlier and couldn't remember how it
went. Always helpful, my partner shows him how to put the belt on, then
takes it right back off and hands it back to the guy. After a few moments
he gave in and pointed the guy to the belt routing label on the fender.

An hour or so later our hero is seen pulling the car outside, and sitting
inside it in the parking lot for a LONG time. When he finally comes inside
he says "The keys are stuck in the ignition." Once again my partner walks
over to see what he's done, and ...you guessed it. HE DIDN'T HAVE THE CAR
IN PARK.

Sometimes it feels like we work 5 days a week just to straighten out what
the BB boys screw up on Saturday, but they're good for an occasional laugh.
