List: Well we made it back. That 14 HR. plane flight is a butt buster
and the only tough part of the trip. I can not sleep sitting up for love
or money. I had 741 e-mails when I got home and have only gone through
about half of them. I won't try and tell about the whole trip in one
message. It would be long and boring to some or most. The lake is so
big that the cars just disappear over the horizon. I was hoping someone
would fly in to the meet so I could con them into taking me up to get a
picture from above the lake. They said you can go out to a point where
all you can see is the horizon of salt for 360 degrees. You better have
a GPS or compass with you or you can be in real trouble getting lost.
The salt is different, I believe that they said it's 98% sodium
chloride. I think Bonneville is much less than that. It is very hard and
cures differently. You don't get the crusty's like B-ville. It dries and
leaves round mounds about a foot in diameter and half inch or so in
height spaced about 4 or 5 feet apart. It had dried out to the point
that the drag would just scrape the top of the mounds leaving the course
a bit bumpy. Not really bad and no problem for our car with air bags.
They really need more weight on the drag and they are going to fix that
soon. They only have about 6 or 8 guys doing all the work at the meet so
they do a great job with a few people.
The road out to the lake was not near as bad as I had heard. A lot
better than the road into El Mirage. But longer about 90 miles. I drove
at about 50mph most of the time in the motorhome. More later, Doug
Odom back in big ditch
