You guys have really shed some new light on the Ardun-Allard Story.
I've learned a lot from the article Bill posted. I had some misconceptions
that have now been corrected.
My understanding was that most if not all of the Allards were indeed
shipped from the UK less engines. The explanation I received was that after
WWII the British government felt that they should support their own
automobile industry and not circumvent them by importing engines. I presume
that since most British powerplants were small displacement units meant for
smallish vehicles there wasn't really a UK engine that would adequately power
the Allard, with the possible exception of the Jag, Rover, and Rolls-Royce.
A lot of this is supposition on my part. Maybe one of the UK people
