Hi all.....

      I was reading the latest Newsweek over coffee this morning and came
across an article about this "blockbuster" movie called PEARL HARBOR due out
soon. You know, how the publicists get the spin out early...... well
anyway, they had this interview piece with the lead actor Ben Affleck (
whoever he is....) and they did a good job 'cause they nmanaged to "poush my
buttons this morning. So I just spent the lasst little while giving
Newsweek a piece of my mind.

Hope you agree with me, if not, ....too bad. :=)

Regarding the interview with Ben Affleck in the May 14 issue; PEARL HARBOR

Editor:

Regarding the interview with Ben Affleck on page 47 of the May 14 issue;

      His snide comment about the caretakers of the vintage airplanes really
struck me.

I quote:

 They were pissed. Those guys are so precious about their f--king planes.
Its like, either dont rent them or accept the fact

      Though we were both born well after Pearl Harbor was attacked, it
seems Affleck is far different than I, in that he has no appreciation of
that which he is surely being OVERPAID to represent -that being the bravery
and honor of his forbears.   Those precious airplanes are just that;
precious -as reminders that there was once upon a time men who had far
greater substance than he.

     The owner/caretakers of those planes were justifiably nervous.
Hollywood has an atrocious past record of trashing what they consider as
props in their rush to get to the box office big bucks. Sure those guys
rent them. Did anyone ever stop to consider the costs of restoring and
maintaining an ancient airplane? You can bet theyd rather not rent them at
all, but its a necessary evil. Especially not to have to rent them to
those with no appreciation for what they represent.

     In closing allow me, the moviegoer, ask this one question; why would I
be motivated to go see this picture when I now know its being portrayed by
such a vain, (and especially, insincere ) actor? Why, Ill bet he probably
also drives a Japanese sports car.

Movies are a mirror of our mores and our society,. God help us.

    Who was it that said: Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to
repeat it?

And why yes, as a matter of fact he did push my buttons,
