Hi John,

Us old A/C mechanics take a lot pride in how cleanly we safetywire stuff.
You're right, when its done correctly it can be very attractive.  (And, no,
I don't like to use wire twisting pliers.)

We use NAS 1193 locking washers on rod ends of control rods in our
helicopters.  They, however, have a tang that fits into a grove on the
control rod to stop the washer from turning.  You still need a drilled nut
as well, though.

I'm not sure of the "no drilling required" washers you're referring to.

Howdy,
  I've looked for these safety wire washers, I know I have seen them, but 
nobody I called, Aircraft Spruce, a couple of the aircraft fastner 
companies, etc. have them. anybody got any clue as to where I might find
them?
