The arrangements are now in place for the burial of the mortal remains of
Donald Campbell, CBE - Bonneville 200mph club member and Bonneville 300mph
chapter member. The first person to exceed 200 mph on water and the only
man to hold the World Land and World Water speed records in the same year.
First to achieve a 400+ mph land speed record with an automobile.
On the 12th September Donald Malcolm Campbell will make his last pass along
the surface of Coniston Water before a burial service in the village at
13.00 UK local time. At 14.15, after internment in the local churchyard,
there will be a flypast by RAF Tornado planes.
Donald's daughter Gina has reminded us that "the day is to celebrate and
marvel at my father's outstanding life and achievements".
If at the equivalent time to the fly pass those of you in the USA who
remember Donald or have read of his career in speed record breaking would
care to share in this event please feel free to do so - raise a final glass
to our 'Speed King'. RIP.
