V4 is not the same as X and XX. V4 motors must still be in Vintage
bodies (pre 1949 American) or specialty (lakester or streamliner)

Rich is correct. The above is a true statement. Engine classes are defined in
section II-1 of the rulebook, this section has been the same for a long time
so, which ever year the book you are using it will be the same.
As to which engines are allowed in a given class read to the end of the class
description to locate ALLOWED engines.
