CARRIAGE MAKER REVIVES THE PAST
A Kansas artisan says he's determined that the nearly lost
art of carriage making will not die. The Hutchinson News
says that Aaron Fisher is making classic carriages "just
like the ones grampa drove." The carriages -- which sell
for more than $2,200 -- are being displayed at this year's
state fair. Fisher says that business has been brisk.
Apparently, he says, a lot of people want a little piece of
history, even if the carriages are modern-day replicas.
Fisher's best-selling carriage is the classic surrey. Custom
orders usually take a month to complete. He says he relies
on old photographs for his "blue prints" since so few
authentic carriages survive.
