Neil,

As I remember Dr. Kamm determined the answer to the question "What do I
do if it is not practical to make the car as long as it should be for
the best aerodynamics."
Dr. Kamm determined the best way to make a shorter car and minimize the
negative aerodynamic effect was to use the ideal shape from the front 
of the car to some point at the rear. That point was where the cross-section
was (I can't remember) percent of the frontal area. It is then cut off
clean. Jacks car use this to some degree but the best way still is a 6
degree closing angle to a knife edge. I don't know how to do this in a
real race car. Once again we are forced to make compromises.
