Dick

Those were some of the kindest words offered about the book. I am humbled by
its power with the reader. It was intended to tell a story of grand adventure
taken by great many experimenters who happen to bring mobile conveyances to an
art form.

The publisher has restricted the number of pages that can be corrected. What
corrections are not made in the 2nd edition will be addressed with an errata
page that I will issue personally, more because I am pissed that many
corrections made during the original production process were ignored by the
editor (since fired from the company for screwing up another book, but not
soon enough for mine). There were 5 proofreaders from the sport, 5 top notch
folks who caught many errors that were just dumped in the trash by this clown
and now I can't get the publisher to ante up.

Nevertheless, it is small potatoes in comparison to not getting the book
reprinted at all.

What a bell ringer you are going to be at the airport, but unless you take up
with turbans and scraggily beards you ought to make through without too much
grief.

  Louise,

I hardly ever buy books, but a copy of the second edition of your
"Bonneville Salt Flats" book was given to me by Santa Clause last year (yes,
even at sixty years old, I still believe in Santa). If you've been following
the list much, you may have probably become aware that I just came out of the
hospital after my second major back surgery in seven months. I have now had a
total of eight discs replaced or reworked through a series of three surgeries.
Some vertabrae have had to be reconstructed and reshaped, and some nerves have
had to be re-routed to be sure that my legs will work. I've got titanium
screws, titanimum hinges, teflon hinges and teflon washers all over the place.
My MRI looks like a picture of an F-16 landing gear! Not much fun!

Anyway, what I wanted to do was thank you for putting together such a great
book. I looked at the pictures and read all the captions when I first got it,
then it got posted on the coffee table. Now, I lay in bed for hours reading
pages over and over again - - every word. Somebody complained that you had
made a couple of minor errors somewhere - - well, I could care less. It's a
great book, it's very informative, very entertaining, and it's certainly
keeping me from getting a severe case of cabin fever during my seven week
recovery!

  Thanks

  Dick J

To those whom it may concern . . .

The Bonneville Salt Flats history book is scheduled for its 3rd Printing,
but will be a 2nd edition with selected corrections. It will be a soft
cover
edition with a retail pricing of $24.95. This will allow more people to
afford the book. The books are expected to be in the warehouse no later
than
    May 2002.

On a sad note, the publisher has informed me they are allowing the hard
bound edition to go out of print. In an effort to stave off the inevitable
a
little while longer, I worked out a one-time opportunity to make one
final
order of hardbound books (these will also have the above mentioned
corrections) and will place the order January 31st.

Without making any financial commitment, I am polling interested parties
to
discover what, if any, interest there would be in obtaining the final
    hardbound editions of the book.

I am also ordering a limited number of unbound books that will become
specially autographed editions available for sale at a future,
undetermined
date (It's going to take a long time to get them all signed by the
racers)

If you have any interest in either the hard bound, or special autographed
editions, please reply to me no later than the 27th of January.

LandSpeed Productions will be upgrading its communications network and
may
be off-line for up to three weeks. The fax number will also be changing.
There is no guarantee that email will be delivered to me after the 27th.
When the new service is established and stabilized, contact information
will
    be made available.
