Right, I was at Bonneville in '89 and watched Dave Matson start his
nitro Vincent with the rollers at the start line, the roller thing
powered by one wheel of his van, driven by his wife.  He got off to one
side and did it safely with the spectators standing back.

One obvious key is, like Dave, you have to be master enough of your
equipment to know how to start it easily and consistently.  Not the
simplest thing to do with injected nitro engines.  Especially air-cooled
bike units that cool-off very quickly after running.  He told me that
after shutting off from a 225 mph blast, the engine would be cold again
by the time he got back to the pits.  Bill
