Hey Guys!

I have been reading a lot of "situation ethics" in recent posts. I feel
there is a need for balance so I am proposing a different view.

When the "situation ethics" approach to life is taken, don't expect much
good to come from it. This is usually hinges on a "what makes ME feel
good" approach. We don't live in a vacuum. What I do affects others, for
good or bad. Although many of our actions are governed by the societies
in which we live, it is my opinion that there are absolutes. Even if the
Cannibals ate people, that doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. It
may have been right in their eyes, but THAT does not make it right.
There is a higher law! A society that does not seek high moral
standards is doomed to self destruction. Quite frankly, I worry about ours.

Sorry if I sound like a "preacher", but since I do, here are some
scriptures that speak to the issue at hand.

Matt 22:36-39
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind.'
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
(NIV)

If we truly lived by these two commandments, would we bring evil upon
anyone?

Prov 3:7
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
(NIV)

Prov 12:15
15 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to
advice.
(NIV)
