Do I understand correctly that a data recorder is not allowed in the 'Classic'
category? But if I use one in a car that is otherwise a Classic car that it is
not legal to run in a non 'classic' class. If so does this apply to Comp coupe,
Altered and gas coupe? what about all the roadster classes and vintage?? It
would seem funny that a 1980 firebird has more restrictions than a 32 Ford
roadster or a flathead powered car in vintage altered to keep it in the sprit of
things... I am truly confused on this subject. If this true, that you can have
a data recorder in altered car and a carb and not be legal for any class, what
would inspire the powers to be to create rules with black holes so to speak that
an existing car can not run in the higher bracket where more things are allowed.
Why do I have to run EFI if I am more than happy with the carb or mechanical
injectors in order to run in a non classic class? Surely not to save money and
keep things low buck. How does someone with this system slowly step up to a
faster class? I would have to buy EFI if I wanted to run data recorders?? That
makes the $3000 data recorder cost $8000... Even more to the point if one was
really serious about running a Fuel altered I would think nitro and a mechanical
injector would be faster than nitrous by a lot, There are very few EFI systems
suitable for nitro, but by the same token it would be nice to measure wheel slip
and things like that with a nitro car in fuel altered but can't do it because
don't have EFI..
If this is all true it makes absolutely no sense at all to me and does not seem
like a set of rules that has the racer in mind one bit..

Instead of classic classes and the like what is really needed is one class that
there are no rules other than safety equipment, any body and engine, and
controls mechanical or electronic, EFI traction control fuel and gas covered
wheels uncovered wheels any number of wheels. A group of cars that is unlimited
to innovation, kind of what it states in the Streamliner class until you get to
the restrictions section..

The same ought to work for the classic vs non classic. If you are not a classic
car then you are a regular car without the black holes.. It should be either /
or rather than a large set of conditions to be legal for each and as many ways
to not be legal for either.
