Actually, Wes, it does melt up here -- there's not enough wind to blow it
around... That's what happens up in North Dakota -- but here it just sits,
melts, sits some more, melts some more, and then there are mud bogs that
make it difficult - nay, impossible - to put the truck/car in the garage for
a couple of months.

However, this is the last couple of days for the first "Adopt a highway"
weekend of the season, and Nancy and I are wondering if we want to wander
seven miles of US41 to pick up trash -- walking in snow. . . Hey, we
sponsor the adoptahighway thing here 'cause we travel enough that we like to
see clean roadsides, and by cleaning 'em up here -- we can be
ever-so-righteous when we complain that other roadsides aren't clean. We
get about 1,000 - 3,000 pounds/year from our seven mile stretch. We've
found a $1, a $20, a 1/4 ounce of pot, and more empties than you can
imagine. Not too many condoms, only a coupla spare tires. Just think if we
were closer to town -- before the folks have thrown most of their stuff
(note I said "stuff", not some other insulting and swear-type word, but you
know what the heck I'm talking about...) out the windows. And I continue by
saying that it's amazing how little garbage is thrown out the windows up
here. The folks seem to litter a whole lot less than we've seen in 'way too
many other parts of the nation.

There was still some snow in the front yard when we left the house this
morning. And, finally -- those towns that got 500" --- mountain villages,
hey? We're in flat territory, just downwind from Lake Superior. No hills
in which to hide everything, no ski hills to entertain big-money folks.

RE; Your P. S.

Saw a lady on the Today Show a while back (has to be your neighbor) with a
big sigh bragging about the 300" Marquette had received this winter. We
were happy that Alta and Snowbird received their average of 500" ... as
skiers and as consumers of the water that snowpack holds. Nowhere near that
amount here in town 3,000-5,000 feet lower. Out there in Michigan, instead
of melting you let it get all dirty and blown around and it just wears out.
