Gary, Jon, List:
I think you have identified the major impediment to building a MC
streamliner that is easier to balance and control: the 5-point harness rule
makes it nearly impossible to consider any position other than reclined--
which inherently gives poor balance.

The harness rule seems to have been implemented as a carry-over from
reclined seating in the 4-wheelers, since MC streamliners had evolved into
similar seating. The rule is there in the interest of driver safety-- it is
not a "fair competition" thing. So I think there is good likelihood that a
builder could-- with a restraint design that offered equivalent rider
protection-- approach the SCTA officials and get approval. At least I'm
holding-out that hope, since I'd also like to build a MC streamliner
someday, and I have no intention or riding a bike fast while lying on my
back.

NO! that's why I could not use a road race sidecar which was what I intended
to run originally because you cannot be seen fully from both sides and the
top you must run in the streamliner class which requires roll cage
,seatbelts
,the whole shooting match, I could not work out for the life of me how to
get
the 5 point racing harness to operate correctly or safely in the sit up
normal
riding position

My question would be can you still build a bike like this and be legal for a
scta-bni event.?
