This is disconcerting! How does one find out about these unpublished
records?
(Or were these open minimums? Or just recently - that meet - set records?)

Does the listing on SCTA-BNI.org show ALL the current records?

As happens so very often when using computers the old saw 'garbage in/garbage
out' has infected the SCTA/BNI database the last few years. With the help of
Ed Safrik I feel we have the most comprehensive db we have ever had.

Problems that occur are many. The addition of new classes, the changing of
engine displacements, etc. all have an effect on the records. When a major
change is made it is policy that we go back to past records and reestablish
one that may have been superceded by another vehicle. One of the best ways to
keep the records straight is from the competitors themselves. If a record is
listed incorrectly or missing you can be sure I hear about it.

At Speedweek this year we published a list of record differences between the
rulebook and the database. This was posted at the registration trailer and
mentioned in the driver's meeting. I also publish an up to the minute copy of
records for the impound stewards and have a copy available at the registration
trailer. Each impound steward is under the obligation to check the record the
vehicle is running against when the vehicle impounds.

The rulebook list records for our three venues, however this is outdated as
soon as the first vehicle runs. Classes with no record listed at Bonneville
are considered as open, no minimum. At El Mirage all classes without a listed
record have a published minimum. Due to the amount of motorcycle classes
available it is not practical to publish all the minimums. The motorcycle tech
committee has the list available if there is no current record in a given
class.

The internet provides the most up to date record listings, try
www.scta-bni.org. I cannot vouch for other sites that list records though.

Hope this helps,

Dan Warner
