I believe that the car was built in the late 70's or early 80's for Brian
Burnett, one of the founders of the now defunct NDRA (Nostalgia Drag Racing
Assn). The car, powered by a Ferreri (Burnett owned Ferreri Of Los Gatos (CA)
was built by, among others, Frank Schonig Fabrication in Los Gatos, CA, who
also built my 27 T street roadster and my now-retired Gold Digger
lakester/dragster. Frank had also worked for or with Roy Brizio and I believe
Ron Attebury(sp) on the Tom Prufer "knock-off" of the Speed Sport drag
roadster.
The first time I saw the red 1932 roadster in question was at either the
1981 Speed Week or heading for the salt in either 1981 or 1982 when the meets
were rained out.
I'm not sure exactly who owned it at that time but it was still
definitely Ferrari powered.
Subsequently it fell into the hands of Dennis Varni, the Walsh Bros, and
Cusack(sp) et-all and started sporting the blown BBC's that have been used in
it ever since.
