It's my understanding that a common crankcase would make for a single engine.
Would guess (in classes other than production) you could machine a common
crankcase and crankshaft, add 16 cylinders or so and I believe you would still
have a single engine.

With details of the Puma motor now in the public domain, the list now knows
why I was asking about what makes a 'single' motor under SCTA rules for
cars.  The Puma motor is a 'V8 Yamaha' that could power many types of 'F'
motored cars.
