Richard,

Yes & No!

An incorrectly installed gas cap can set a code and also cause 
driveability problems. Many codes on OBDII system will not erase by 
removing the battery power nor can they be erased with all analyzers. 
With the proper cycles of trips without a cause for the code, the code 
should go away.

I suspect there was some "tongue-in-cheek" here, but, you can stop 
looking for the carburetor, it ain't there!
