A very hot July weekend greeted everyone for the traditional 'meet before
Bonneville race. A low entry turnout, approx. 80, allowed those that wanted
a second run. Chief timer Glen Barrett reported no serious problems from his
"Best Seat in the House".

John Bradshaw became the newest member of the club, also the first this
season, by driving Les Leggitt's C/BFS to a fine 277. John was the club's
Rookie of the Year for 2002 and he wanted to improve on that honor the only
way he could - become a member! On this run John set the top speed of the
meet, can't do much better than that at El Mirage.

Performances by other club members included:
Johnny Lee in the Blown Away Racing C/BGS at 248.817 for a new class record.
Rick Yacoucci with NTII, aka Costella-Yacoucci, this time in the H/BGS class
with a new record at 248.833. This brings Rick back into the points chase
after his non-record meet last month. Pete Prentice was in the seat this
time in the Kelley-Prentice A/CBFAlt. New record of 225 but 10 mph on the
old 215 speed. This brings the Turkey Creek bunch and Rick Yacoucci to
within a few points of each other with three meets left.

New vehicles continue to show up at the lakebed such as the Stanley &
Manchen B/BGL which breezed through tech due to Rich's expertise in car
construction. The team ran a respectable 181 off the trailer for the first
time entry. Rich said he get the tires and the ground into sync. I saw other
new vehicles going through pre-Bonneville inspection including a new twin
engine streamliner. I don't any other info on this car though.

It's now off to Speedweek, the advance crew is now there laying out the
course, pits and arranging for all the support equipment needed to put the
event on. The club wishes you every success if you are planning on attending
Speedweek. Go fast, be safe and return to El Mirage in September to resume
the 2003 racing season.
