We drove out in time to catch record runs yesterday at 7:00. Keith Turk
popped another great run. He isn't launching as hard as before and it shows
in his lack of wheel spin but the car is hooking up better. I think his
first quarter times will back me on this. Glen, of course, made a dry
comment from the timing palace about needing a red hat with an elastic
hatband for Keith should he break 250 with the car. Speculation is that
should he pass a 250 average he would let Tanya play ... naaaah!

Keith's pit (Tanya's adult day care facility?) is rapidly becoming a good
place to lounge. Doug Anderson, mayf, Tom Bryant, Rick Byrnes, Tom
Shannon, Gribble and myself were all there at the same time yesterday along
with Keith and his crew. The bull meter was pegged!

Tom Bryant sounded strong on the run I watched. The Phoenix made another
run over their old record with a great push from George Nelson in his 13
second '65 Peterbilt. The Joint Venture diesel truck is getting pushed by
George too. Makes me wonder what would happen if one of the fast
streamliners or lakesters got that good push off the line. It would sure
get them into their horsepower curve faster.

The Ohio State University electric car was still having problems. What a
great way for the students to learn how to solve problems in a real life
setting. Their crew dropped the average age of racers on the salt by about
fifteen years.

Congratulations to the ladies ... Allison Volk got a red hat, Corin Van (I
forget the last name) set a 201 two way average record in the Burke Coupe
and the West Virginia engineering grad in the Grumpy Old Men lakester made a
209 mph run as she works up to the 350 range that car/engine combination is
capable of. Nancy rode Jon's bike on a licensing run with a 180 and change
speed.
