When all that's sorted out, we'll install taller gears, nitrous, and a good
fairing and we will be looking for 150+ mph a year or so down the road.

We are probably one of the lowest cost efforts on the salt. We race old,
cheap, bikes. We camp at the Bend in the Road or at the truck stop. But we
have fun. If the folks with the $100K cars have anywhere near as much fun
proportionally, I don't see how they can stand it!

In addition to the racing, I really enjoy just looking at all the different
approaches to going fast, the street rods that drive up from California, the
friendly folks, the cool equipment that I couldn't afford in a million
lifetimes, speaking to people I've read about all my life, sitting out and
listening to salt stories in the evening untill it's cool enough to go to
bed; i.e., the whole scene. I've got about 400 pictures, and the collection
grows each year. This might be the only place where waiting in line for
three hours is actually kinda fun.

I got hooked the first trip, and hope to be doing this a long, long time.

We brought a 'new' guy with us this year who used to be a drag racer. He had
been to the salt a few times, but not for 42 years. The last two times he
was at Bonneville (59 - 60 - 61?) he ran 199+ mph in a roadster. He never
could get into the twos! Then Viet Nam, family, career all got in the way of
racing.

He made three passes on my bike and the next time I looked at him he was
going through the rule book trying to figure the best class for his half
finished roadster in his garage back home.

They say salt fever is incurable; it can only be driven into remission. His
has been in remission for 42 years, and it's breaking out again.

I think next year we'll have two bikes and a car.

Cheers...Rich
