I knew you wouldn't appreciate my analysis of the minimums, because you
see most things quite differently than I do. However, you don't have to
agree with me to have my respect. I think I am correct in saying you are
respected by everyone on this list for your accomplishments. But still,
in my view, the reason for the minimums is on solid ground.
I am enclosing a quote from the 1962 program about the 200 MPH Club...
"To be eligible for a record run, a driver must qualify his car by
exceeding the existing national record for his class. Another prime
qualification requirement states that the driver's speed for his two-way
run shall be within 2 percent of his qualifying run. Some of the listed
requirements may appear restrictive at first reading; however, they were
created for the protection of both the existing and prospective member.
The Bonneville National Board is not trying to hold down membership of
the club..."
Things have changed greatly since 1962. We probably have at least 400
more classes, many with open records, we have abandoned the required
two-way record run AFTER qualifying, and many times we run the same
direction on both runs. All of this requires that the "bar" be set at a
reasonable level.
Anyway that's my story and I am sticking to it. If you don't like the
Club, I guess you could petition for removal, ha ha!
