I came across this little ditty (below) and don't seem to
remember it................Can anybody verify/de-bunk this tale?

" In November of 1965, the Shelby Daytona Coupe made its last
competitive appearance (under Shelby American ownership), at
the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. With Craig Breedlove's
"Spirit of America" jet car down with problems , that would
take several days to repair, Goodyear and Breedlove were at
risk of "losing the salt" to arch rival Art Arfons's
Firestone-shod car. Goodyear and Breedlove called Shelby and
arranged to send a Daytona Coupe to hold the salt by making
"record setting attempts". It was a clever scheme, and by the
time they had finished, the "Beach Coupe" had set (27) new
records!"
