Yep-- it's called "trial assembly" and it has a lot of merit. 

As I read in a book somewhere-- and this should be engraved on a bronze
plaque nailed to the wall of all of our workshops--- "Impatience to get
the car on the road has been the downfall of many a good design".

As I try to finish my car for WF--

I am really learing the wisdom of tacking everything ---assembly of the
car--COMPLETELY---taking everything apart--Final Welding--then put it
back together

needless to say I didn't always follow this advice --and some of the
simple little things --require  they be done differently to work or
differently than youd like ----REQUIRE  CUTTING or GRINDING it loose to
get it RIGHT---and this is not being written by a perfectionist
