For those of you who have never been in Toms "Office", I have had the 
opportunity to visit both his office and the Library of Congress.  My vote goes 
to Tom!  I'd be willing to bet that not only did he have that old rule book to 
check out, odds are that he was there when that record was set!  It is great to 
have living history right among us, and I'm fortunate to have met him in person 
and count him among my friends.

Here is what I found while looking back through my old rule books...In
1976, J. Cunningham of Reno/Sparks NV set the record in 750 cc, P Class @
136.674 MPH. In 1977 he raised the record to 138.223 MPH. In 1979, the
record was lost to Michael La Follette of Dearborn MI @ 142.613 MPH.
