Tom, you are so correct about listening to people. Our tech guys are really
good and always full of good ideas for additional safety. We must listen to
everybody that cares to look at the car. The newer racers need to remember
though that the rules cover only minimum requirements. It is OUR judgment
as to how much safety we put into our own machines. Since I want to live a
lot longer, I choose to consider safety at the top of the list.
I have found that some of the best safety suggestions on my deal have come
from non LSR guys, but just good technical people looking at "what can
happen when I go on my head".
As for the bottom of the car and drainage, has anyone used louvers, done
backwards to enhance the draining of a rear engine car? Any results? I
know the projection will not help the flat bottom belly pan, but may be no
worse than holes in the pan. I'm not looking for more winter projects, but
always looking to improve.
I have used a backwards NACA duct in the bottom of the tail to enhance
airflow thru the engine bay. I choose to flow a little air thru to help
cooling a little.
