Hi folks, wondered if we could lean on the list for information? Received
the following email asking for help in identifying what appears to be a former
salt flats or maybe dry lakes racer. Go ahead and contact him direct if you'd
like. Thanks Ellen

DEAR SIRS;

SALT FLAT RACING HAS ALWAYS INTRIGED ME.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!

I NEED TO TRY TO CORRECTLY IDENTIFY A FORMER SALT FLATS CAR THAT I'VE RECENTLY
PURCHASED.

IT'S A 1959 (?) DEVIN (?) WITH THE NUMBER 551 F/SR PAINTED ON THE SIDES. IT'S
BELIEVED THAT THE LAST NAME OF ONE OF THE DRIVERS IS ADAMS AND WE CAN MAKE OUT
"MECHANIC BILL ADAMS" ON THE AIR FOIL BEHIND THE DRIVERS HEAD.

THE CAR IS YELLOW AND ORANGE WITH A 2' BLACK STRIPE BETWEEN THEM.

THE WHEEL DISCS ARE YELLOW AND BLACK IN A '60'S STYLE 4 LEAF CLOVER PATTERN.

SPONSORS THAT SHOW UP ON THE CAR ARE:

THE PORTAL MOTEL, LONE PINE, CA
EL INCA RACING CAMS, WILMINGTON, CA
    KALBACH PERFORMANCE
ELLIS MOTORS, INC, LONE PINE, CA

THE DEVIN APPEARS TO HAVE HAD AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BASED ON THE SHIFTER
AND THAT THERE IS NO CLUTCH PEDAL.

THE DRIVESHAFT IS A FLANGE TYPE ON THE TRANS END.

THE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE SIMULAR TO A FLATHEAD FORD WITH THE RIGHT SIDE BEING BACK
ABOUT 4 INCHES.

THE CAR APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN COOLED VIA THE WATER TANK IN THE REAR AREA.

WHAT KIND OF SPEEDS WOULD A CAR LIKE THIS HAVE TO DO INORDER TO NEED THE
PARACHUTE?

PLEASE ADVISE.

THANK YOU!!!!
