Your oil pan has little to do with underhood clearance. Only the front lip of
the
pan is over the front cross member, & that is only about 1" deep. How much
clearance do you need? I use a K & N 2 1/4" filter in a standard 14" K & N base-
not the drop base- & I clear the bonnet by 1/2" or more. Carb is a 500 cfm
Edelbrock or Carter, Buick/Olds intake. With an early cross member, there is 1
1/2" between the oil pan & cross member, with a late model, there is around 3".
In my experience, the easy way to get additional clearance is to position the
engine as far to the rear as possible.
