Cut the lever below the transmission tunnel & weld on another lever, say
from an MGB tranny.

I could be wrong, probably am, but isn't it the same
transmission as the TR7/8. Could be a different lever
though I suppose. Sounds like it may have changed, from
your email.
Let's see, who has SD1s that we know. Eric (in Austriailia)
and Kelvin (or at least at one time he had one). I don't think
either are on the V8 list.
