There are a number of things you can do.
1) If you have, or can acquire, a turn signal control box - do so. These
were used on nearly every British car ever made. They tend to be expensive
in the US ($125 or so).
2) If you cannot locate or cannot afford a control box, you can make one up
out of two relays purchased from an electronics house (Radio Shack?). They
must be DPDT 12VDC relays with contacts capable of handling around 10 Amps.
In either situation, refer to the TD wiring diagrams that have turn signals
fitted. This will give you a basic idea of how you must modify your car.
There won't be much change, but you will have to mount a switch on (under?)
the dash to control the relays. You'll also have to reroute some
brake/parking wiring.
Don't forget that the brake lights must continue to work despite the turn
signals being on. Therefore, it's easy to get confused if you have to design
your own system rather than use the Lucas control box.
Nonetheless, I've done it on both my TD and my J2. The only mod I had to
make on the J2 was to go to double filament bulbs instead of the original
singles.

My TD doesn't have turn signals. Any easy way to install? I would like
to use the existing side lights on the front wings and the existing
stop/tail lights, but I don't mind using a modern flasher or relay or
whatever doesn't show.
